Eco Labels Explained

Stardust Fabrics is introducing more sustainable fabrics, which we consider as a necessary step to contribute to a more sustainable approach in our industry and to the ecological awareness of the customers and consumers.

The production and manufacturing of textile is a water and chemical intensive process, which has a negative impact on our planet. Our company takes responsibility by offering a more sustainable fabric collection and to help reducing this impact.

In order to contribute to a more ecological approach in the textile and apparel industry and increase the awareness of customers and consumers about ecological influences, we believe it is a necessary step to work with more sustainable fabrics.
We have been introducing an increasing number of sustainable fabrics in our collection, such as Organic Cotton and more eco-friendly fabrics such as Tencel and Viscose,

We comply with the worldwide recognized standards such as: GOTS, GRS, OCS, BCI and OEKETEX. Below an explanation of these different standards.

OEKO-TEX

The Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex product label, introduced in 1992, certifies adherence to the specifications of the standard by the same name, a document of testing methods and limit values for potentially harmful chemicals.

This independent testing and certification system may be applied to textile materials, intermediate products at all stages of production and ready-made textile articles.

Examples of eligible items for certification are raw and dyed finished yarns, raw and dyed finished fabrics and knits, and consumer goods (all types of clothing, home and household textiles, bed linen, terry cloth items, textile toys and more).

GOTS

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) concerns a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical inputs during the production process of textiles.

GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

OCS

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a standard for tracking and verifying the content of organic materials in a final product and ensures that minimum 5% of the fabric is made of organic material. Besides the OCS certification for organic blends, there is also the OCS Organic 100. OCS Organic 100 is a label grade for 100% organic material.

 BCI

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is the largest sustainability programme for cotton in the world. This initiative improves the farming conditions of cotton globally, supports worker’s wages and reduces chemical treatments. As BCI member we support BCI certified farmers, we are able to purchase raw material from these farmers and contribute to a lower impact on the environment. With more than 1.5 million licensed farmers from 22 countries on five continents, the BCI initiative has become a worldwide success.

GRS

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) standard ensures that the fabric has at least one material component consisting of more than 50% of recycled material. In our case we talk about recycled polyester. The GRS certificate also covers the ink/dye stuff being sustainable.
